Party brand and DJ and production duo Secretsundaze, individually known as Giles Smith and James Priestley, have been at the forefront of the London electronic music scene for over sixteen years. Alongside their hugely successful event series, which has gone on to span the globe, Giles and James have both individually worked on production projects over the years – James notably for his work with Marco Antonio and Giles as one-half of Two Armadillos.
Fast forward to 2018 and the duo are now proud to reveal their very first full EP together under the Secretsundaze name. Featuring original spoken word poetry from London based Anthony Anaxagorou, as well as two incredible remixes from Detroit’s Waajeed, the superb ‘Still Hope‘ EP on our very own Phonica imprint will be hitting all of your favourite record stores on Friday 15th June.
You can pre-order your copy here.
Known the world-over for their stellar record collections, we asked Giles and James to share with a few of the treasures they have recently unearthed. Check them below!
Zodiac Trax – Planet X
Heard this online the other day and have just bought a copy form you guys at Phonica! Classy stripped back late night deep techno/house the way we like it! More than one killer on here and was super happy when we heard it was an early production of Dutch trailblazer Gert Van Veen. We met when he was the musical director at Studio 80 in Amsterdam quite a few years and had many a night together! Big up’s Gert!
Kanu Matsui Project – Time Flies
Found ourselves in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk at the weekend and stumbled upon this. This is the track that caught our attention. Beautiful!
Urban Tribe – Programme 1
Kinda remember this at the time but somehow it slipped through our net but picked up a copy while on tour in Tokyo in January at Technique one of our favourite house/techno shops in the city. Shouts out to Tommy and the guys there! This is just an absolute beast and has been getting beaten at many of our gigs. For those that don’t know Urban Tribe is the illustrious team of Kenny Dixon Junior, Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir, Sherard Ingram and Carl Craig no less!
Equiknoxx – Congo Get Slap (Mark Ernestus Remix)
Kinda had to find a way to sneak this in. Picked up last year in Hardwax. It’s just a mind-blowing track with so much drama, tension and atmosphere. It’s what some might call the shit.
