Essential Releases Of The Month: April 2017Without taking Record Store Day Releases into account, April has been a pretty healthy month on the release front.Excellent label debuts, reissues of long out of print albums and mysterious edits made the cut. Check out our picks!

JAN JELINEK – Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records LP [FAITICHE]

Jan Jelinek made us happy (again) when his own Faitiche label announced the reissue of his sought after first album Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records, an inimitable journey into dub leaning ambiences with intricate layering of loops and rich details that unveil with every listen. A real masterpiece!


NUMMER – Second Sight LP [GOING GOOD]

The ever reliable Going Good label, curated by London selector Brian Not Brian, reaches 10 releases with Nummer’s long awaited debut LP. This double 12″ touches many cornerstones of modern electronic music but the result is something that few artists manage these days – an original style.

 

THREAD – Conningham EP [REACH]

Great first outing from new label Reach, combining elements of minimal techno, electro and heavy bass house with sci-fi atmospheric pads. Looking forward to more from this promising imprint!

 

PAUL ST. HILAIRE & RHAUDER – Derdeoc LP [SUSHITECH] (with FREE Slipmats!) 

Tikiman is back!! Yossi Amoyal’s Sushitech has cemented its reputation as the go-to imprint for dub leaning minimal techno. No one better than Rhythm & Sound’s frequent collaborator Paul St. Hilaire aka Tikiman to certify this.

 

GIGI MASIN / VAKULA / ROMAN FLÜGEL – Dekmantel 10 Years 01 [DEKMANTEL]

To celebrate 10 years of Dekmantel, the dutch label is releasing a series of ten EPs from artists that have shaped Dekmantel into what it is today. The first instalment comes from an all star line up: Gigi Masin, Vakula and Roman Flügel.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – Acid Japan EP [OPTIMO TRAX]

Originally released in Japan in 2015 on Nitelist, only a few copies of this double A side made it to Europe. Optimo deliver once again with this reissue!

SMAGGHE & CROSS – MA LP [OFFEN]

Vladimir Ivkovic’s Often Music keeps delivering unique releases, both old and new. The fifth instalment on the label presents a special collaboration between Ivan Smagghe and Rupert Cross. The result is a combination of acoustic instrumentation and sound design that paints a story through sound collage escalating in ambience, quiet piano phrases and eccentric drone soundscapes.
