phonica mix BANNER 142

There’s a certain low-lit, after-hours quality to everything ddwy touch — a feeling that sits somewhere between dubbed-out introspection and dancefloor disorientation.
The London-based pair, Naomi Pieris and Ronan MT, have been quietly carving out their space through a run of deeply textural releases and increasingly exploratory live and DJ outings, from DIY spaces to leftfield festival bills across Europe. Their Phonica mix leans into that same hazy, transportive energy: a collage shaped by long-haul sessions in Berlin and Düsseldorf, stitched together with their now-signature live vocal manipulations via harmonica mic and tape-style echo. It’s a mix that feels less like a straight recording and more like a lived-in artefact — part diary, part dream sequence — tracing the outer edges of their influences, from deep UK electronics to the kind of oddball, system-driven moments that tend to define their most memorable sets.

Hey Naomi and Ronan of ddwy, thanks so much for joining us! Can you tell us about your mix and what the idea behind it was?

Hello Phonica! We wanted to capture the spirit of two long-haul DJ sets from a weekend in Berlin and Düsseldorf (both of which have stories for another time). Throughout the mix, we recorded our voices through a small green harmonica microphone and our ‘time machine’ echo. This setup has become a staple of our DJ sets over the past year.

What are your preferred methods for finding new music—do you still enjoy digging around in dusty crates, or do you prefer to buy online?

London is still our favourite place to dig for the old gold (special mention to Crazy Beat, Upside Down, Atlantis, M&VE, Perfect Lives). But we live out in the sticks, so when South Eastern trains aren’t on our side, we fund music from your conventional internet sources.

What are five records you couldn’t live without?

Tricky question! We have a habit of getting fixated on one artist every few months – Baby Ford’s deeper catalogue has given us some wonderful fruits.

What has been one of your most memorable sets over your career?

We were invited to a festival in Torino run by the long-standing anarchist collective ‘Radio Blackout’ in June 2025. We performed a live set in one of the last few squat warehouses left in the country. There was a fire-blowing gabba duo with their own soundsystem who started playing at the other side of the warehouse as we were half way through our set. It made complete sense at the time.

What do you have up your sleeve for 2026?

Two very different remixes we’ve been asked to do are being released early this year, and with some luck, a ddwy record or two.

Thanks ddwy 🙂
