Phonica Mix Series 141:
Chez de Milo

phonica mix BANNER 141

Stepping up for his Phonica mix, Chez de Milo delivers a raw, one-take session that captures the ruff-and-ready energy he’s been channeling on dance floors across the UK and beyond.
A mainstay of Fabric, The Cause, Love International, and a host of revered underground spaces from London to Bristol, Chez has steadily built a reputation as a DJ’s DJ—equally at home soundtracking late-night basements as he is sun-drenched Adriatic terraces. A longtime affiliate of scene-shaping figures such as Andrew Weatherall—who personally invited him to play New Year’s Eve 2019 in London in a career-defining moment—Chez’s sound draws on deep, psychedelic currents and leftfield club pressure in equal measure. His new label, Club Blanco, signals the next chapter: a platform for forward-thinking club music, including forthcoming heat from A.Wild, while further cementing his place within a lineage of selectors who prize individuality and depth. Recorded club-style in a single take, the Phonica mix reflects the records he’s been hammering lately—many sourced from Phonica’s own racks—stitched together with the instinctive, chaotic precision that has defined his approach for over 15 years behind the decks.

We had a quick chat with Chez about the mix and what he has in the pipeline for 26′:

Hey Chez, thanks for joining us! Can you tell us about your mix and what the idea behind it was?

My pleasure. Approached it club style, one take so is suitably ruff and ready. Wanted it to represent the sort of sound I’ve been slinging on the dance floors recently. Records that have been on heavy rotation for me, some of which I picked up at Phonica in fact.

What are your preferred methods for finding new music?

Mainly online. Late night wormholes in the usual places. I think my methods would best be described as chaotic. I do very much enjoy a psychical dig though, especially while traveling. My favourite spot Disk Frisk in my hometown of Bristol keeps me nicely topped up also.

What are five records you couldn’t live without?

Couldn’t live without is pretty strong but here are five LPs I am particularly fond of:

Boards Of Canada – Music Has The Right To Children

Gil Scott Heron – Reflections

Radiohead – In Rainbows

Can – Tago Mago

Mount Kimbie – Crooks & Lovers

What has been one of your most memorable sets over your career?

So many over the last 15 years. Playing with Andrew Weatherall on NYE 2019 in London really stands out. Being invited by Andrew himself was a real what the fuck moment at the time and felt like a real turning point getting recognition from a hero like that. The gig itself was really special and a memory I do really cherish.

What do you have up your sleeve for 2026?

I have lots of nice parties lined up for Club Blanco. Pushing things forward with the label. Next release from A.Wild is out very soon. More to come throughout the year with that. Some nice looking gigs lined up for myself as well that I am excited for, looking forward to exploring new cities and sharing music. As well as some fun Love International related stuff on the horizon. Perhaps I will find time to get focused in the studio and get around to releasing some of my own productions as well.

Thanks Chez 🙂
