Paul Woolford delivers a double dose of quality crossbreed dancefloor music taking his sound to new depths, illustrating he’s an artist who never stops evolving.
Opening this special double a-side 12” is ‘Can’t Do Without’, a bone-shaking record that is laced in originality. Building up slowly from a tape-hiss-laden break, a low-slung bassline and a deep yearning vocal, ‘I Can’t Do Without You’ is sublime dancefloor material. Engaging from the outset with clever broken beats that build playfully into an emotive, psychedelic breakdown to get lost in, Woolford demonstrates why he has achieved so much success in his game. On the flip ‘Bareback’ treads into dark acid territory that is a hybrid of techno and dubstep in a similar vein to Actress and recent material from Instra:mental / Boddika. Spiced up with illustrious cries and trippy soundscapes, Woolford again uses creative plays on sound, distorting the atmosphere and mutating the energy taking his sound to new heights.
